I’d heard of Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, Louisiana, but I didn’t know what to expect going in. Three days later, I was surprised and not just by one thing. Almost every part of this place caught me off guard.
Paragon is owned and operated by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, and that matters because it shows in everything from the lobby to the food to the way the resort is designed. This isn’t just a casino with a hotel attached. It’s a full resort, and it has a story most places don’t have.
Arrival: That Eagle Statue Sets the Tone
When you pull up at Paragon Casino Resort, the property is big. The eagle statue near the entrance is the first sign that this place has its own identity. By the time you walk through the front doors, you realize you’re not walking into a generic resort.
Live Alligators in the Lobby; Yes, Really
How many hotels have you been to with live alligators and turtles in the lobby?
That was my first real clue that Paragon Casino Resort was going to be different. Walk through the front doors, and there’s a swamp exhibit, actual live alligators and turtles, built right into the atrium. I stopped. Took it in. Then stopped again.
My room balcony overlooked the atrium so that I could look down at the gators from above, too. It’s the kind of detail you don’t forget.
The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe: The History Is Everywhere
Paragon Casino Resort was built by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe, and it was the first land-based casino in Louisiana. You feel that history is walking through the place. The tribal artwork, the eagle imagery, and the cultural storytelling along the walls. It’s not background decoration. That’s the whole point.
Walking through with that context makes the experience different from any other casino resort I’ve visited. There’s a reason this place exists here, and they want you to know it.
The Room: Clean, Spacious, and That View
The room itself was what I needed: spacious, clean, and comfortable. But the balcony was the bonus I didn’t see coming. Looking straight down into the atrium where the alligators live is not something I’ve experienced at any other hotel. Small thing, but it sticks with you.
The Indoor Pool: The Biggest Surprise of the Trip
I went in with zero expectations for the pool. I was wrong.
It’s indoors and temperature-controlled, which means it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing outside; the pool is always open. There are waterfalls, a hot tub, a tiki bar, and when we were there, a DJ running a full pool party. The energy was completely unexpected for a casino resort in Central Louisiana, one of the highlights of the whole trip.
Spa La Vie: Don’t Skip This
I booked a 60-minute deep tissue massage at Spa La Vie. Sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi are also available. When the massage was done, they brought out the champagne.
That’s it. That’s the review. Go to the spa.
The Food: I Expected Casino Food. I Was Wrong!
One of the biggest surprises at Paragon Casino Resort was the food.
At Legends Steakhouse, I started with the lamb lollipops, which were tender, flavorful, and a great way to kick off dinner. For the main course, I ordered the 14-ounce New York Strip, cooked the way I like it. It was one of the best steaks I had on the entire trip.
For something more casual, I stopped by The Draft Room, where the supreme nachos were piled high with toppings and perfect for sharing while catching a game.
Between those meals, Paragon completely changed my expectations. I came to the casino, but I left talking about the food.
Topgolf Swing Suite and Nightlife
The Topgolf Swing Suite inside Paragon — a good time whether you golf or not. When you’re ready to step away from the casino floor, there’s a Topgolf Swing Suite inside the resort. We played a few rounds, competitive and fun, no actual golf skills required. There’s also a mechanical bull ride, which felt very Louisiana and was exactly the kind of random thing that makes a trip memorable.
The Club Pelican 777 and Atrium Bar kept the evenings going. There was always something happening.
Final Thoughts
Three days at Paragon went fast. What I keep coming back to is how much is packed into one property and how different it feels from other casino resorts because of the tribal culture running through everything.
The alligators in the lobby. The indoor pool party. The champagne at the spa. Lamb lollipops at the steakhouse. Full energy at the Club Pelican 777.
